Life2 (squared) is a project put together by Mark Power (founder of Give of Yourself). He selected seven parolees and paired them with Edmonton area photographers. The goal: to document the “essence” of each parolee as they change their way of life and try to make a difference in the world around them.

I was paired up with Steve. A man who has spent more than a quarter of a century behind bars. Just a few short years ago Steve was preoccupied with staying alive in some of North America’s toughest prisons – San Quentin, Folsom. Today his life is calm. He can focus on things that are important to him.  His family, being involved with his church and staying in shape.

After meeting for lunch and a couple of coffees, we were ready to begin the photo shoot. It took place over a couple of weeks at three locations – his church, a gym and river valley trails.

It was an amazing experience.
